This year at the annual Christmas Party for all the Broadview University campuses (5 in total) they annouced the awards for Factulty of the Year and I won for our campus. I was really honored, and surprised, and happy to recieve this award being my first year at the university... hopefully it won't be a downward slope after this... I will try to win it again next year.

White Shepard MMA
I was hired by a local MMA Gym and Clothing Retailer to design 2 mascots for their stores and for a shirt...
White Shepard is the name of the dojo and the mascot is "the head of a White german Shepard on the body of an MMA fighter, in a Brazilian Gi, with MMA gloves, and standing in the stance of one of the founders of Brazilian Ju-Jitsu Helio Gracie".... that was the description I was given.
This is the end result
The second mascot is for a clothing line they produce and they wanted " A skull with a hoodie, with a body of an MMA fighter and with MMA gloves on... but only the upper torso"
This is the end result.....
They loved them both and so they will have images printed on all of their merchandise.

Merry Christmas Chalkboard
At my day job at O.C.Tanner, I am asked to do all types of creative things, recently they have asked me to design one side of one of our chalkboards. Even though this wasn't a huge job, I found it a challenge and had fun figuring out how to create this image with very limited materials.

Comps for Angry Gnome
Nothing is more satisfying than getting free comic books!! And what puts the icing on the cake is when you are one of the artists in the book!
I received my comps for the books I drew this year over the weekend.
I love being a comic book artist.

Completion.
Well I am so glad I took the time and effort to attend the Joe Kubert School of Cartoons and Graphic Art. It was a life long dream, and it pushed me into the direction of becoming a professional comic book artist. The next steps are up to me to follow my dream and get work in the professional world, but I am so ready to start this life path. Thanks to everyone that supported me on this journey.
EXCELSIOR!
Homework 5 Returned
Well this is it! The returned art with comments. They is a saying when you are being reviewed "it is best when they have nothing to say at all." It means you have done such a good job they find no fault.
On my last critique there wasn't much to say at all.. the pencils had a few comments, the inks only 2 and the colors had no comments at all on it (so I didn't post).
That is a great sign I did great work.

Homework Number #5
This assignment was the most time consuming and the most challenging... but it was the most fun and I love that I get to show you my process from beginning bluelines to full colors.
First I lay out my pages in blue line non reproducible pencil.
Then using graphite I start laying in all the details
Using Micron Pens I ink in the piece
Then into Photoshop to do the computer coloring.
Then into Illustrator to do the borders and text.
The four part process.
This assignment was fun to get into the principles of complete pages.
Thank you to The Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art for the amazing education.
Excelsior!

Homework Number #4
Well I have finally wrapped all my course of studies at the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art. I received my certificate in the mail and I'm on my way to bigger and brighter projects in the realm of comics. Here is the 2 final Homework assignments I never posted on this blog.
Homework Number 3
This assignent was about character development.
You had to create a male and female character and then illustrate the panels on the right.
I really liked doing this assignment, the last assignment was by far the most challenging, but this one let me lay out large scale characters.

Angry Gnome Comics / The Third Act
This is my second story I have done for Angry Gnome Comics. I really enjoyed doing these pages because it had the detective noir genre. I loved playing with the deep shadows and grey tones.

Discovering Emma
Recently I have been hired by a couple of different companies to do some photoshop work for them and that led to this project. Discovering Emma is a the story of Emma Smith the wife of Joseph Smith the mormon leader. The company that hired me, Candlelight Media Group had created the top DVD cover for there distribution of the film, but were very unhappy with final result.
They sent me stills from the film and they wanted more realism and a rustic/pioneer tone to the piece. There are several versions of this DVD cover, but this is the one they ultimately choose.
Photoshopping and creating is a great art form, but it takes a lot of time and a great knowledge of the program to make everything work for you, I have great respect for people that do great photoshoped film posters after doing my one DVD cover.

Other Tattoo Commission
I have never been asked to do a half sleeve, I have designed smaller tattoos before even one that went across the entire back of a woman.. but this was the first tattoo that took up the upper half of someones arm.
This was option number one - The client wanted aspects of african american tribal, theater, music (piano) and the Holy Trinity
After showing the first design I was able to brainstorm on the size and the imagery.
This was the final design but everything had to be drawn out in very specific dimensions, which I did.
I can't wait to see the final product.
Character Design for a Mascot
Not all freelance jobs are comic book jobs.
I have been hired to create a mascot for a local water softener company, I was asked to do something fun and adventurous. I just finished the first round of fun sketches for the client which they really liked.
I will keep you all up to date as to which one they choose and I will show the final product.
